Architecture

Russian architecture was mainly influenced by Byzantine architecture until the Fall of Constantinople. Between the 15th and 16th centuries, Aristotle Fioravanti and other Italian architects introduced Renaissance trends. The reigns of Ivan the Terrible and Boris Godunov witnessed the development of churches with awning-shaped roofs, reaching their splendor in the structures shown by Saint Basil's Cathedral. The 19th century was dominated by the revival of Byzantine and Russian design.

The predominant styles of the 20th century were Modernism (Fyodor Shekhtel), Constructivism (Aleksey Schusev, Konstantin Melnikov) and the Stalinist Empire style (Boris Iofan).
